Data security is the biggest risk for businesses for the second consecutive year, according to Symantec’s 2011 State of Security survey.
Data security was considered to be a bigger risk than traditional crime, natural disasters and even terrorism. In fact, IT-related risks made up the top three with cyber attacks in first place, followed by IT incidents caused by well-meaning insiders and then internally-generated IT-related threats.
Some 41 per cent of businesses think that data security is more important today than it was a year ago, significant compared to the 15 per cent who claimed the threat was decreasing.
Almost three-quarters of organisations had seen a data security attack in the last year, while 21 per cent said that the frequency of attacks is increasing. A previous poll by Symantec revealed that small businesses are not taking data security and recovery seriously enough… Are you?
